An Alum Block is a naturally medicated stone that consist of Alum and Potassium.

Alum is a natural mineral that is revered for its ability to soothe irritation after shaving and to stop nicks and cuts from bleeding. Alum is hemostatic, so it can be used to stop bleeding if you should cut yourself shaving while Potassium is antiseptic so it can be used to cleanse and close the pores after shaving.

A single block can last for months and should be part of every wet shaver's kit. Can also be used as an astringent for those with normal to oily skin.
